Preview: Griffins at Admirals

About the Admirals: The longest trip in franchise history - three weeks and 10 games - officially ends as the Admirals return home to play host to the Griffins. The teams have met twice this season, with the Admirals winning both games in Grand Rapids, 3-2 in overtime on Nov. 10 and 8-1 on Nov. 14. Milwaukee returns home tied for fifth place in the West Division with Houston, three points behind fourth-place Iowa. Forward Patrick Leahy returns to the Admirals after a brief stint with the parent Nashville Predators. The Admirals have acquired Michael McKenna, a two-time goalie of the week in the East Coast Hockey League this season with the Las Vegas Wranglers. The team sent goalie Scott Reid to New Mexico of the Central Hockey League.

About the Griffins: Grand Rapids comes to Milwaukee in fourth place in the AHL's North Division. Kip Miller is tied for 10th in scoring in the league with 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists).

Admirals return, lose in shootout

After three weeks and 10 games on the road, the Milwaukee Admirals were able to find their way back to the Bradley Center on Wednesday night.

Now, if they could just find their way to their opponent's goal.

Three weeks on the road might have helped the Admirals' team-building efforts, but it doesn't seem to have done much for their goal-scoring abilities. The Grand Rapids Griffins, a team the Admirals had beaten twice this season by a combined score of 11-3, escaped with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Admirals.

Despite the lack of tangible evidence, Milwaukee coach Claude Noel was upbeat about his squad. It didn't hurt that the Admirals outshot the visitors, 34-24, on the night.

"The thing you have to look at is, are we getting chances?" Noel said. "If you're not getting chances, that's a much bigger problem."

The difference boiled down to Grand Rapids goalie Jimmy Howard. He was outstanding in the nets, turning away 33 of the 34 shots he faced.

Griffins finally figure out how to beat Admirals

MILWAUKEE -- Jimmy Howard's hot streak has lifted the Grand Rapids Griffins above the .500 mark for the first time since Nov. 10.

Howard stopped 33 shots in 65 minutes of regulation time and overtime and the final four attempts in a shootout Wednesday night to spark the Griffins to a 2-1 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals at the Bradley Center.

Admirals Fall to Grand Rapids 2-1

Milwaukee, WI-Coming off a solid performance during the team's longest road trip in franchise history, the Milwaukee Admirals fell just short of beating the Grand Rapids Griffins in their homecoming game at the Bradley Center. The 2-1 loss in a shootout ends their win streak, at seven games in-a-row including the playoffs, against the Griffins.

Unlike the previous meeting, an 8-1 victory by the Admirals, Wednesday night's game went into the record books as a goalie duel. The match-up featured Ads' goaltender Karl Goehring and Griffins' Jimmy Howard.

I care. $2 seats in the upper bowl and a teddy bear toss after the Admirals first goal with all teddy bears going to Children's Hospital. The $2 for the upper bowl seats go to Children's Hospital as well and $2 from every ticket purchased in the lower bowl will go to Children's Hospital.

I will be in the lower bowl...$5 seats. I'll be there with my wife and her brother. Hmm...I'll wear my Sidney Crosby #87 Rimouski Oceanic jersey to the game. Cool enough? The name is Derek by the way. Admirals games are tremendous for the jersey watching to be had; you don't get a greater variety of sweaters than you do at a minor league hockey game. NHL games are pretty heterogeneously NHL jerseys. See ya there perhaps! GO WILD!!!

I hope I can go 50/50 I'll be there. If I can go I'll see if I can find you.

Just wondering how you got $5 lower bowl seats. They're $17 for the "mid deck" and $15 for the "Stern and Bow."

Any idea what section you're I won't have to look as hard if I can go?

Preview: Admirals at Grand Rapids Griffins

About the Admirals: The Admirals returned home Wednesday after the longest road trip in team history (three weeks and 10 games). Now, they turn around and head out for another long weekend. Coach Claude Noel likes the way his team his coming together but it is clear the team needs another goal scorer and it is unlikely parent Nashville will be sending Alexander Radulov back to Milwaukee anytime soon. Starting with the long trip, the Admirals have averaged just 2.6 goals in their last 11 outings.

About the Griffins: After dropping two early season decisions to the Admirals, the Griffins stole one Wednesday at the Bradley Center. Or rather, goalie Jimmy Howard stole one. Howard stopped 33 of the Admirals' 34 shots as the Griffins won, 2-1, in a shootout. Howard enters play tonight with a 2.64 goals-allowed average with a 91.2% saves percentage.

About the Wolves: The Wolves are, quite simply, a juggernaut. They have scored 128 goals, 28 more than any other AHL team. By comparison, the Admirals have just 69. Chicago has the top three goal scorers, led by former Admiral Darren Haydar with 54 points (18 goals, 36 assists). Jason Krug has 52 points and Brett Sterling is third in the league with 40 points.
