I don't know how much everyone here knows audio formats or knows the FLAC format (Full Lossless Audio Codec I believe)... But I came across something that I thought would make some people want to find out WTF FLAC files are and how to play them.
I had been looking over an issue of Rollign Stone from earlier this year and it mentioned Purple Chick (who? Just a name) and Beatle remasterings. Not re-arrangements or different mixes, just remasterings of the audio files for most (if not all) Beatle albums that have been released. The fact is that the only digital transfer of most Beatle songs took place in 1987. Certain songs have gotten fresh transfers but by and large most Beatle tunes are from a dated transfer to CD when the technology was still rather new. "Purple Chick" (a person or a group) took the audio files and improved the sound quality or attempted to do so. You need a FLAC file converter or an FLAC player to listen to these things but the sound quality is noticable even to me (and I'm using a "bionic ear" so to speak): 6plus3
