KOIVU MAY RETURN TO HABS LINEUP FOR GAME 6

After a surprising 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Boston Bruins on Thursday at the Bell Centre, the Montreal Canadiens - who are still up 3-2 in their first round series - will be looking for more offence to put away their long-time rivals in Game 6.

And reinforcements could arrive with the return of captain Saku Koivu, who has been out for three weeks with a broken bone in his foot.

For the third straight day, Koivu hit the ice for a skate and will do so again for Saturday's morning session in Boston. At that time, it's expected he will make a decision whether he'll make his long-anticipated return.

"If he says he's ready," head coach Guy Carbonneau told reporters on Friday. "He's not a rookie. He's been hurt before. He's been in this league long enough to know what he needs to do and what he can do. I don't see a problem."

Koivu skated with several players from the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday and looked ready to go. "He pushed harder on Friday than before, and we'll see how he reacts to it in the morning," said Carbonneau.

If Koivu returns, he will be back as the team's second-line centre moving Christopher Higgins back to left wing.

Carbonneau didn't sound quite as optimistic about swingman Mark Streit's availability. Streit's injured hip apparently felt better but he didn't skate Friday and will be a gametime decision at best.

The Canadiens need just one more win to advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, while a loss will force a Game 7 in Montreal on Monday.

Bouillon, Koivu and Streit returned to the line up but the Habs still lost 5-4 allowing the Bruins to force game 7 on Monday night.
