Wild call up Matt Foy and send Benoit Pouliot back down

~ Derek Felska MVN Staff Writer

The Minnesota Wild shuffled some personnel Monday as well as today when it sent highly touted prospect Benoit Pouliot back down to the team’s AHL affiliate in Houston and called up winger Matt Foy. The 6′3″ Alfred, Ontario native, Pouliot had no points in his 3 games with the team. Despite the fact he was sent back down, the Wild’s press release head coach Jacques Lemaire was rather impressed by the youngster and believes strongly that young Pouliot will get another chance with the team later this season when he said, “In his first game (Wednesday at Montreal) he was really good,” said Lemaire. “He might have been a little more tired for the back-to-back games. I know he’ll be up here again. ”

In Pouliot’s absense Foy has been a formidable presence for the Aeros posting a natural hat-trick in a just a 6:17 span. While it is obvious Pouliot will be recieving additional chance(s) in the future to stick with the big club time maybe running out for Foy. Foy was a 6th round selection (175th Overall) back in 2002. He has worked hard through the Wild’s system but has yet to really replicate the scoring totals he put up when he played for Brian Kilrea and the Ottawa 67’s where he was 2nd in the OHL in scoring with a whopping 132 points (with 61 goals, 71 assists).

Foy showed alot of hustle and heart, finishing his checks and taking excellent lines. He obviously wants to stay.

I agree, I thought so too...he created a few chances too just no one was their to pounce on them. We'll see how he does the next few games, but I think he's realizes this could be his last chance. GO WILD!!!
