Wild trade Pascal Dupuis, acquire Adam Hall from Rangers

By Derek Felska | February 9th, 2007

The Minnesota Wild made (perhaps) their first move to shore up their playoff hopes when it traded left wing Pascal Dupuis for right wing Adam Hall of the New York Rangers. Hall is in his 4th season, and Minnesota will be his 3rd NHL team. The Kalamazoo, Michigan-native has always been known for his gritty high energy style of play, as well as a player who has some decent hands near the net. Wild assistant manager Tom Lynn had this to say to Wild.com about the team’s newest forward, “Because the element of grit is not widely available in the trade market, we feel we are getting a player that brings more of that physical element while New York is getting more of a penalty killer. Having that toughness is definitely needed in a playoff push.”

While this trade does nothing to address the team’s need for a faceoff person, or a defenseman that can provide reliable scoring. The team was in need of some grit; a perfect example was the Wild’s game against Dallas last Tuesday. The Dallas Stars’ Joel Lundqvist was hitting Wild players without repercussions all night. While Derek Boogaard has been used to play the role of policeman; the team needs to have a tougher player that can skate and blend more naturally to a scoring line and Adam Hall is that type of player.

Hall has just 4 goals and 8 assist through 49 games this season; but has averaged about 30 points a season throughout his career. Hopefully Hall will give the Wild the crashing/banging winger it has lacked, as well as provide a small boost offensively.
