Default Mavericks-Bucks Preview

Quote:
After opening their road trip with a bit of a scare, the Dallas Mavericks look to extend their winning streak to eight games Tuesday when they visit the struggling Milwaukee Bucks.

The Mavericks (42-9), holders of the best record in the NBA, won their seventh game in a row Sunday, 106-89 at Philadelphia after withstanding a rally that sliced their 30-point lead to eight in the fourth quarter.

"When they stormed back on us at the end, we were fortunate," Mavericks coach Avery Johnson said. "That's what really good teams do. When teams make runs, you have to try and shoot them down and try and go on the offensive."

Default Big Fourth Carries Mavericks Over Bucks

Quote:
MILWAUKEE, Feb. 13 (AP) -- Dallas coach Avery Johnson admits even he's stunned sometimes by the Mavericks' cornerstone player.

"Dirk Nowitzki is incredible. Man, sometimes, I get caught watching him, he's so good,'' Johnson said.

Nowitzki had another brilliant performance with 38 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists and the Mavs overcame a 16-point second-half deficit to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 99-93 Tuesday night for their eighth straight win.

The Mavericks, with the NBA's best record at 43-9, outscored the Bucks 28-11 in the fourth quarter as Milwaukee self-destructed with six turnovers and failed to hit a field goal in the final 7:05.

Default Frustrations snowball

Quote:
The script was a familiar one for the Milwaukee Bucks and so was the result.

The Bucks gave the Dallas Mavericks all they could handle for most of the game Tuesday night at the Bradley Center, only to see the Mavericks outlast them in the final minutes for a 99-93 victory.

Default Mavs pass Milwaukee's test, 99-93

Quote:
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee Bucks, missing their star and with two other starters banged up, played hard for 48 minutes Tuesday night.

The Mavericks did so when they needed to – in the fourth quarter.

That was enough for their eighth consecutive victory, one that came courtesy of Dirk Nowitzki's brilliance once again.

Flirting with a triple-double as he has several times in the last month, Nowitzki bailed out his teammates by having a hand in virtually every key play down the stretch of a 99-93 victory at the Bradley Center.

Default Mavs thaw in second half

Quote:
MILWAUKEE -- With the temperature hovering at eight degrees outside Tuesday night, it took awhile for the Mavericks to warm up.

But once they did, the Milwaukee Bucks found out the cold-hard facts on why the Mavs are the hottest team in the NBA.

With Dirk Nowitzki having the hot hand, the Mavs rallied from a 16-point deficit, ended the game on an 11-1 run and held off the Bucks 99-93 at the Bradley Center. Nowitzki scored 38 points and added 11 rebounds and eight assists in an MVP-type performance.
