Bucks rally for fifth victory in a row

San Antonio - The Milwaukee Bucks knew they weren't supposed to win games like the one they faced Tuesday night against the mighty San Antonio Spurs at the AT&T Center.

But win it they did.

The Bucks rallied in the third quarter and again in the fourth, and then outplayed the Spurs - the team with the best record in the National Basketball Association - down the stretch to emerge with an uplifting 114-107 victory, the Bucks' most impressive victory in their one-plus seasons under coach Terry Stotts.

ON THE COURT
PLAYER OF THE GAME:Michael Redd hit jumpers, got to the rim and made all eight of his free throws to score a game-high 36 points. "We just stayed focused mentally," he said. "This is a long game and we stayed in it mentally for all of it, even when we were down. We just chipped away and then at the end of the game we hit big shots."

PLAY OF THE GAME: Mo Williams slammed the door on the Spurs by sinking an 18-foot jumper to give the Bucks a 112-107 lead with 16.5 seconds left. "It was a play, (coach Terry Stotts) iso-ed me," Williams said. "He had enough confidence in me to get a bucket. I just set myself up in my shooting range where I'm comfortable and I made it."

OFF THE BENCH: The Spurs were unexpectedly short-handed as starting guard Manu Ginobili and reserves Brent Barry and Matt Bonner were inactive after coming down with a stomach virus during the day. Ginobili is averaging 15.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game and Barry is the league's leading three-point shooter. Bucks reserve guard Steve Blake left the game for good early in the second quarter with a back sprain. He played 7 minutes.

Ailing Spurs let Milwaukee score at will

By the end of Tuesday night, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich didn't care who was sick or who wasn't. He had seen enough to make himself ill.
A stomach virus had swept through the locker room, depriving the Spurs of the services of Manu Ginobili, Brent Barry and Matt Bonner. But after watching the Milwaukee Bucks blitz their way to a 114-107 victory, Popovich was only concerned about his team's ailing defense.

"Our players need to make up their mind they're going to continue to understand that's what wins for us," Popovich said. "Or we should go ahead and make plans so we can have a long summer."

At the least, the Spurs can expect an eventful film session this morning. The 114 points Milwaukee scored — which, Popovich said, were "enough to win three games" — were the most the Spurs had allowed in a regulation game at home since Dallas hung 126 on them five years ago to the day.
