Post Geoff Jenkins

From the Chicago Tribune on the Chicago White Sox

The Brewers would love to deal Geoff Jenkins, and the Cubs are trying to build a market for Jacque Jones. Either would be a better option in left than going to arbitration to keep Podsednik.

I would rather we don't trade him to a division rival. Because our luck Jenkins will be on his hot streak when we play him.

It seems the Brewers gladly would accept a minimal trade return so long as some team picked up most or all of his $7 million salary for 2007, but there are no takers so far. No surprise there: Jenkins, 31, is coming off a rare down year with a .277 average and 17 home runs.

Good to know we are not setting the bar to trade him too high.

According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, it's possible the Padres will acquire Geoff Jenkins to play left field.

The Brewers would eat some of the $7.5 million they still owe Jenkins in order to move him. Still, the Padres don't have a lot to give up in return. This is one trade possibility in which Scott Linebrink's name should not surface.

He has more value to us if all we're going to get is some junk player and have to pay some salary. If that's what it comes down to I'd rather just platoon him.

The only thing I won't like if he stays and platoons is it’s going to cut down on the number of at bats and playing time our younger outfielders are going to get. Is it worth it to get virtually nothing for him to see to it that the younger guys like Gwynn, Gross, and Hart get more playing time and develop as players? Or give the playing time to Jenks who will have no future with the team after this year for sure if he isn’t traded before this season. Each side has it's arguments but if we could get a half-way decent minor leaguer or a half-way decent reliever, Melvin should make the trade. The outfield problem needs to be resolved. We can't have three outfielders on the bench making three plus million a piece.

Easy solution. Trade Clark for whatever you can pay some salary if you need to.

Give Gwynn more time in AAA, cut Nix for all I care I don't even know why we got him.

Your outfield becomes Jenkins/Mench in LF, Hall in CF, Hart in RF

Jenkins or Mench + Gross on the bench.

Give Gross the same role as last year and if he repeats the success he had in 2006 then I would feel much more comfortable giving him a more significant role in 2008.

See how Gwynn does in AAA, cut down on his strikeouts a little, keep the .300 BA and see if he can raise his OBP just a little bit (maybe around .370 or .380 to make up for his lack of power.) If he can I would have no problem with him getting a chance in 2008 for starting CF.

Simple right?
