Post 2007 Brewers will be better than the World Champion Cardinals

That’s a provocative headline, but I feel okay saying it, partially because I am without conscience (I’m a liberal, after all ), and partially because of what I’ve noticed in the last few days.

Looking through the pitchers portion of The Graphical Player 2007, I happened upon something, which may have been obvious to some other Brewers fans, but gave me quite a bit of hope for the Crew in 2007 – something that I think will allow them to contend for the division title, and another datum in the Doug-Melvin-is-genius book.

The success of the 2007 Cardinals depends on the starting rotation. The bullpen is as solid as you can get (once Izzy is completely healthy and back which should be within the first month/month and a half at the latest). Also, the offense should be very solid.

Carpenter is the ace and after that we've got question marks. The Cards have high hopes for Wells as he's always had the stuff, under Duncan he could flourish. The youngsters Reyes and Wainright certainly have the stuff to be really really good pitchers, we'll see how they fare throughout the whole year. By the middle of the season, we should have Mulder back and with any luck he'll be back to the form of his A's days.

Its a long season, a lot can happen. I think the Brew Crew have a shot at contention for the NL Central crown but I feel they'll need some help through bad luck/crappy playing from the Cardinals, Astros and (sadly) the Cubs.
