Since assuming control of the Brewers' baseball operation in September 2002, general manager Doug Melvin and assistant Gord Ash have not had an arbitration case go to a hearing. That streak could end in the coming weeks.

The Brewers have three players remaining in arbitration - Hall, catcher Johnny Estrada and right-hander Claudio Vargas. To this point, negotiations with the three have not progressed enough to project settlements.

We can only hope Hall finally will get the long term deal he deserves. But I imagine it's not as easy to reach settlements with guys who are new to the organization.
