Brewers outfielder talks tradition and celebrating in a new home
MILWAUKEE -- Brewers outfielders sound like they've been swapping talking points this offseason. "I'm as curious to know what will happen as anyone else," Corey Hart says. "Hopefully I'll have a spot and I'll get a shot to play next year. I'm not going to take anything for granted." Sound familiar? Teammate Bill Hall said the same things last month, after playing the outfield in the All-Star Japan Series 2006. Hall and Hart, both converted infielders, are front-runners for two of the three starting spots in the Brewers' 2007 outfield, though the team has yet to finalize its plans. Hart was drafted as a first baseman in 2000, later moved to third base and then to the outfield. He made the 2006 Opening Day roster as a backup outfielder and appeared in 87 games, batting .283 with nine home runs and 33 RBIs. The 6-foot-6 Hart has a surprising mix of speed and power, and will finally get a chance in 2007 to join fellow former prospects like Prince Fielder, J.J. Hardy and Rickie Weeks as big-league regulars. Brewers.com |
