Shortstop hit .257 with 28 steals in Florida State League in 2006

Here's hoping that Alcides Escobar got some cake. Seconds wouldn't hurt either. The shortstop turned 20 on Dec. 16, and there certainly are worse things in life than playing baseball in Venezuela and getting paid to do it on your birthday.
Escobar's glove and legs have been getting him into games more than his bat this season. The 6-foot-1, 155-pound shortstop entered the game for Cardenales de Lara as a late-inning defensive replacement on Dec. 16.

He's batting .214 in 10 games, with three hits in 14 at-bats. This comes after he hit .257 with 28 stolen bases for the Brevard County Manatees of the Class A Advanced Florida State League.
