Arrow Brewers showing interest in Cameron

Brewers showing interest in Cameron - Brewers Blog

Quote:
Though it seems to make little sense on the surface, a source confirmed to me this evening that the Brewers are showing interest in signing free agent centerfielder Mike Cameron.

The Brewers supposedly are looking for a left-handed hitting leftfielder. Cameron is a right-handed hitting centerfielder.

Cameron also has been suspended for the first 25 games of the 2008 season for testing positive for a banned stimulant at the end of last season. To draw a 25-game suspension for using stimulants, a player has to test positive twice.

Arrow Signing Cameron means moving or trading Hall

Signing Cameron means moving or trading Hall - Brewers Blog

Quote:
Yet another source has confirmed to me tonight that the Brewers are actively pursuing free agent centerfielder Mike Cameron.

That means one of two things: They're planning to move Bill Hall to yet another position or trade him in a deal for a leftfielder or third baseman.

Does moving Hall to third base warrant moving Ryan Braun to leftfield? Perhaps.

But if you sign Cameron and then trade Hall in a deal for an established third baseman or leftfielder, that also improves the Brewers' defense.

I don't like it. Cameron is a old player and may or may not be better then what the Brewers already have and if it leads to Trading Bill Hall when his value is at the lowest it has ever been just seems to be a step backwards.

Arrow Brewers mulling Cameron and others

Brewers mulling Cameron and others - Brewers Blog

Quote:
I finally got through to general manager Doug Melvin this afternoon and he confirmed he has interest in signing free-agent centerfielder Mike Cameron.

But Melvin was quick to point out that he is considering other options as well.

"We have two or three options we're thinking about," he said. "We're considering any move that we feel can improve the club."

This is the problem that Melvin is trying to solve: None of the available players are perfect fits. Each come with warts.

Cameron's warts include being somewhat strikeout prone, coming off a down offensive year and having to miss the first 25 games of the 2008 season because he was suspended for testing positive for a banned stimulant.

Arrow Filling the Void...

The Brewer Nation: Filling the Void...

Quote:
Good evening, sports fans! It is I, the Big Rygg, back to the blog for the first time in 2008!

A ton happened to and around me in the last couple of weeks of 2007, so I haven't plenty of good excuses why I haven't been on much.

But...none of you want to hear about my personal life. You come here for Brewer Baseball Talk!

The latest rumor (now confirmed by Doug Melvin himself) flying around the internet is that the Brewers are seriously interested in Mike Cameron. There are some people saying that a deal is imminent, but if there's one thing that following baseball in the off-season will teach you it's that nothing is a done deal until the deal is done.
