Brewers leave without a deal
Brewers leave without a deal - Brewers Blog
Quote:
Nashville - The Brewers' front-office contingent just left the winter meetings and headed back to Milwaukee without making a deal here (unless something is in place pending a physical).
But that doesn't mean they didn't try, or won't make a trade in the future. You don't have to make deals here. In fact, other than the blockbuster Detroit-Florida trade, nobody did much of anything here.
The Brewers hope they laid the groundwork for future moves. They are still determined to do something about their 3B/LF situation, either getting a third baseman that allows them to move Ryan Braun to left or getting a corner outfielder that allows them to keep Braun at third.
I asked general manager Doug Melvin if he thought the groundwork had been laid to get something done later. "It's a possibility," he said, obviously not wanting to tip his hand.
