Lightbulb Dodgers asked about Sheets

Dodgers asked about Sheets - Brewers Blog

Quote:
Nashville - As one alert reader suggested in an earlier blog this evening, the Los Angeles Dodgers were the West Coast team that asked Brewers GM Doug Melvin about right-hander Ben Sheets today at the winter meetings.

Now, don't get all excited just yet. There was no trade proposal. The Dodgers merely inquired about Sheets, probably seeing if Melvin had any inclination to deal him at all.

Melvin's usual response to such inquiries is: "Make me an offer." He wants to see what other teams might be willing to trade instead of asking for certain players. At least, that's how it starts.

It might never get to a serious stage but the reason I felt it was worth mentioning is that the Dodgers might be one of the few teams that could bowl over Melvin with a trade proposal -- which is what it would take to get Sheets.

Default Brewers haven't talked with Dodgers about Sheets

Brewers haven't talked with Dodgers about Sheets - Brewers Blog

Quote:
Nashville - USA Today reported this morning that the Brewers and Dodgers are talking about a deal that would send right-hander Ben Sheets and centerfielder Bill Hall to Los Angeles in exchange for outfielders Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier.

A member of the Brewers front office told me last night that no talks have been held with LA about Sheets. And I just bumped into manager Ned Yost in the hallway of the winter meetings hotel, and he confirmed that no talks with the Dodgers have taken place regarding Sheets. And Yost sits in on all trade discussions.

So, that part of the report is false, as best as I can ascertain. Other parts of it are intriguing, however.

So you want Milwaukee to trade Sheets?

I could see it actually happening because of all of Ben's injuries lately and he never plays a full season because of it. It would be nice to land maybe some top prospects, but if Sheets is traded for them it sort of makes the statement that we don't want to go to the playoffs next season. For me it all depends on who we get.....if the price is right then I say get the deal done.

I wouldn't say want but Sheets will be a free againt next year and there will be the question of can they resign him or not and It may be smart for the Brewers to trade him now if the right deal is out there.

So it is more of a chase that Doug Melvin is being wise and atless seeing what might indeed be out there to be had.

Sheets feeling secure:

Quote:
Forget about the rumors of Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Ben Sheets being traded — well, at least for now.

"We haven't really talked to teams about him, to this point," said GM Doug Melvin. "That could change. Just because the meetings are over doesn't mean the off-season is over."
Article

A trade could pop up at any point in time, but it looks like Sheets is sticking with the Brewers for now. Unless Melvin is trying to see how much he can get for Sheets, in conclusion hiding his cards.
