I would have no problem with trading Turnbow if need be. He seemed to fall apart last season and lose his confidence all at once.
Cordero is our closer now and I am not a big fan of keeping players around who lost their starting job the previous season and bringing them back the next season. They never seem to have as much confidence in themselves and don’t trust the organization as well as carry forth some hard feelings towards certain people. |

Everything I've heard from Spring Training is that Cordero and Turnbow have both been absolutely LIGHTS OUT! I wouldn't trade that for anything, that's two solid innings at the end of a close game...one begins to dream of Mariano Rivera and John Wetteland for the Yanks back in the day.
I think one of the major things that affected Turnbow was that he was trying to learn some of the other great pitches in the league, and while practicing those, he lost his release point. He was throwing hard still, he just couldn't hit his spots, and it all eventually snowballed for him. I remember right after the ASG he was talking about how he was constantly learning how to throw different pitches from Rivera, Wagner, Hoffman, etc. As long as he refocuses on what he does well, he'll be fine.

As you said his stats this Spring are giving me hope that he is turning it around and getting back to the Derrick Turnbow of 2005. If not I think Capellan has to step up big time or things could get real bad. I am expecting a career year out of Capellan so maybe that will help take some of the pressure off Turnbow.
His stats were just ugly after the ASG last year. 11.29 era with 17:23 BB to SO ratio. |

Capellan is having a terrible Spring from what I hear as well...which is unfortunate, I think he'll break out soon as well though...
