Arrow Derrick Turnbow

Yet another from MLB Winter Meetings Whispers reports that the Red Sox have talked with the Brewers.

I would have no problem with trading Turnbow if need be. He seemed to fall apart last season and lose his confidence all at once.

Cordero is our closer now and I am not a big fan of keeping players around who lost their starting job the previous season and bringing them back the next season. They never seem to have as much confidence in themselves and don’t trust the organization as well as carry forth some hard feelings towards certain people.

According to sources, the Sox approached the Milwaukee Brewers about a deal for Derrick Turnbow , who vacated the closer's role after the Brewers obtained Francisco Cordero in a July trade. The Brewers told the Sox that Turnbow wasn't available. The Sox also met with the agents for Octavio Dotel and Joe Borowski, but their interest in both is minimal."

So much for that right now...

Hell, send him back to the Angels for Donnelly if he's not a FA.

We can fit him in there again.

No Turnbow is not a free agent. He signed a 3 year 6.5 million dollar contract around the start of last season. Seems players always do crappy the first year they get a long term deal.

He did pritty good the first half of the season.

I'm think making the All Star game kind of get into his head a little bit and it messed him up.

Everything I've heard from Spring Training is that Cordero and Turnbow have both been absolutely LIGHTS OUT! I wouldn't trade that for anything, that's two solid innings at the end of a close game...one begins to dream of Mariano Rivera and John Wetteland for the Yanks back in the day.

I think one of the major things that affected Turnbow was that he was trying to learn some of the other great pitches in the league, and while practicing those, he lost his release point. He was throwing hard still, he just couldn't hit his spots, and it all eventually snowballed for him. I remember right after the ASG he was talking about how he was constantly learning how to throw different pitches from Rivera, Wagner, Hoffman, etc. As long as he refocuses on what he does well, he'll be fine.

As you said his stats this Spring are giving me hope that he is turning it around and getting back to the Derrick Turnbow of 2005. If not I think Capellan has to step up big time or things could get real bad. I am expecting a career year out of Capellan so maybe that will help take some of the pressure off Turnbow.

His stats were just ugly after the ASG last year. 11.29 era with 17:23 BB to SO ratio.

It was one big snowball after the ASG, but as long as he is doing fine now, he'll be just fine when it gets back to the season. The main thing is, if he is hitting his spots now. His problem was he wasn't hitting anything near the strikezone with his fastball, so everyone would just watch it go by for a ball.

Capellan is having a terrible Spring from what I hear as well...which is unfortunate, I think he'll break out soon as well though...

So far so good for Turnbow. Was Derrick in the World Baseball Classic last year? Seems a lot of players that played in that struggled after the ASB last year.
