MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers' exclusive window of negotiation with their free agents, including top target Francisco Cordero, closed Monday with no action. That came as no surprise to general manager Doug Melvin.
"They all want to wait and see what other clubs will have to offer," Melvin said. Cordero is coming off a season in which he ranked second in the National League and set a franchise record with 44 saves. He won a spot on the National League All-Star team, finished with a 2.98 ERA and became the eighth pitcher in history to post 40-save seasons in both leagues. Melvin has named Cordero as the Brewers' top free agent target, but wouldn't say whether the Brewers had filed a formal offer with Cordero's agent, Bean Stringfellow.
