Now, as to "clutch, I'm playing around with numbers here, as I've said repeatedly; and season-long, Jeter has performed well in those situations I selected at the start.

As to down-the-stretch kflo is correct:

1. If I has seected Sept. 1 through Sept. 26, A-Rod's numbers would have buried Jeter's; but I picked a date out of thin air guided only by a limited time frame determined by GB and games left to play. With some races on/about Sept. 15th being really close and games left @ 20 or less, I picked the 15th.

2. I didn't look back to see who would fare better on a date selection. I just knew anything befote mid September would not have the critical time constraint I wanted. [Luck of the draw, Jeter came around; A-Rod slid off]. However, those few games were crucial [conducive to clutch].

I haven't made any proclamtions here. A-Rod has had a great year. I could be wrong. [Oh, what a shock!] I gave my opinion; BUT, at least I tried to make points to justify it. If I'm so very wrong, the A-Rod wins, and I'm still pleased.
One of the fundamental issues with the arbitrary critical time frame you chose to represent 'clutch' is that it's really not representative of the story of the Yankee's season at all. In fact, 'down the stretch' for the Yankees this year is exactly when games started becoming less crucial for the Yankees this year.

The Yankees struggled mightily early in the season, at which time ARod was their best player, and the player most responsible in limiting how big of a hole they got themselves into. Throughout the season, they were facing an uphill battle, with ARod being the most productive player, and instrumental in their digging themselves out of the hole. By the beginning of August, they were still behind in the Wildcard, and ARod went on an absolute tear through August and the first half of September. By about mid September, powered largely by ARod's absurd production, the Yankees had a lead for the Wildcard, and were strong postseason favorites already, especially once the Tigers started to slide.

Now, ARod may have slid off a bit during the final push for the division title, but in terms of powering the team back from an early deficit to secure postseason birth, no one has been more instrumental than ARod. The division title may be desired, but in terms of value added, the spot in the postseason is by far more valuable than the seeding. I don't consider anyone to be even remotely close to him this year.

This observation is true. However, I used it in the larger context for the entire season of performance [same batting situations] where Jeter, as I recall was .377 and A-Rod @ .321 with a StdDev @ .05, mean @ .270.

It's up there somewhere above in the thread.

If the phillies win tommorow... Jimmy Rollins gets the MVP.

The biggest choke = Jose Reyes.
