i'm asking if there are any situations where it's not simply a question of the greater RC. you were framing it earlier as a question of effect on team dynamics. was that just another way of saying RC? or is there more?

It's a lot of things: RC on a tem's offense, sparkling defensive play ay a key position [preferably the two combined], demonstrated on-field leadership, consistent heads-up or "money" plays ... and all at an observable level, demonstrating solid impact on team performance, even if it isn't enough to make the team a champion.
