I'm sorry I left for a while. I needed a vaction, and then work changed substantially. I'm over 50 hour weeks, plus two hours a day of commuting time. A few weeks ago I launched my own blog about Seattle Sounders FC and Life in Puget Sound. I won't be by these parts often as my focus has changed. Sorry about the unannounced retirement. |

That's a surprisingly unobjectionable All-Star roster. The only glaring errors:
- Hamels over Webb is nonsense. Webb's numbers this year are better across the board, except for the fact that Hamels has 9 "wins" and Webb has 8. - Freddy Sanchez? Seriously? Granted, it's quite a challenge to find a deserving Pirate All-Star. But Sanchez is having a replacement-level season, at best. Putting Jason Bay on the team instead of Carlos Lee would have been better; he's not having much of a season, but at least he's got a track record. - I'd replace Fuentes and Valverde with Matt Capps and Jonathan Broxton. Broxton is clearly a better pitcher than either of the two guys selected (insert "closer mystique" rant here), and Capps' inclusion would solve the aforementioned obligatory Pirate problem. - No Chipper Jones? The guy's hitting .329/.418/.602. One wonders what exactly he would have needed to do to make the team. Chipper's one of the top 10 players in MLB, and he's having an excellent year even by his own lofty standards. There are any number of guys who could be bumped from the team to make room for him. Actually, Carlos Lee is having a much better season than Jason Bay. Lee is leading the league in RBIs. A better choice for the Pirates would prbably be Mark Gorzalawny as a starting pitcher. Until Oswalt was added, Lee was the only Astro representative.
