Default NL All Star ballot

The Official Site of Major League Baseball: Events: 2007 All-Star Game

The Mets are dominating the early ballot with Bonds getting significant support as well.

As of now the All Star starters would be

LoDuca (3rd by WPA)
Pujols (7th by WPA)
Utley (3rd)
Reyes (5th)
Wright (4th)
Beltran (13)
Bonds (1)
A.Soriano (34)

Rankings courtesy of Fangraphs leaderboard.

While each of the leaders is among the best at their position, they aren't the premier talent.

Utley should be the starter. He's really coming along now, and is tied for 2nd in the NL in RBI.

Griffey Jr passes Bonds and A.Soriano for the second OF slot

Quote:
Griffey's 12 elections are tied with Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith for the third most all-time, trailing only Hall of Famers Cal Rikpen Jr. (17) of the Orioles and Rod Carew (15) of the Twins and Angels.

Griffey has not appeared in an All-Star Game since 2004. He finished fourth on the outfield ballot last season with 2,395,820 votes.

Its nice to see The Kid back

Carlos Lee is having all all-star type season for th 'Stros. He and Hunter Pence are the only real bright spots. I don't expect him to be voted in, but he is deserving.

It is very hard for a Rookie to get as they generally don't get the respect from the fans or the manager. Though Pence has a nice RoM-May title now.

Both might wind up caught in the numbers game.

Griffey has made a recent charge and might actually finish as the number one overall. He battles Carlso Beltran for that title.

It seems quite likely that the NL will be the junior circuit for this game at least

Ugh, I'm still not a fan of fan voting. It is just wrong because most fans don't really follow the game, and while they may be getting it right that Prince Fielder deserves the start this year over Albert Pujols, you can tell it is because the Brewers have done a good job of getting their fans to vote. How else do you explain Geoff Jenkins being 8th in OF. Bill Hall being 9th in OF and Corey Hart being 12th in OF. Weeks is 4th at 2nd, Hardy is 2nd at SS, Estrada is 3rd at Catcher. If Ryan Braun had been up all year he'd probably be in the mix for 3rd base the way he is hitting.

Estrada, Fielder and Hardy deserve where they are in the voting, but everyone else is a joke. I'd rather see more Brewers there than not have all but one, but still, the voting process just doesn't seem right. Seems like the players should have a vote that counts for 50% of the voting as well. They know better than anyone, and to avoid any problems they wouldn't be able to vote for their own team.

The players elect the next group and the manager only decides the final six spaces now.
