Default Urbina sentenced to 14 years in prison

Quote:
CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- Former Major League baseball pitcher Ugueth Urbina was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the attempted murder of five workers on his family's ranch, the Attorney General's Office announced Wednesday.

Urbina, a former pitcher with the Montreal Expos, Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, Florida Marlins, Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies, was also found guilty of illegal deprivation of liberty and violating a prohibition against taking justice into his own hands during a dispute over a gun on Oct. 16, 2005, according to a statement from the Attorney General's Office.

The 32-year-old free agent was accused of joining a group of men in attacking and injuring workers with machetes and pouring gasoline on them at his family's ranch, located about 25 miles south of Caracas.

Definetly a shame for Ugie's shake, but he had what was coming to him. When I first heard of the case it sounded as though he wasn't to blame, but obviously the court found out he was....

Do you think his sentence is too severe?

If the description is accurate.... the sentence could be deemed actually quite light

Another one of Ed Wade's brillant moves. Lets trade a great utility and a team guy for a guy who's now in prison for attempted murder. I do agree that sentence is pretty darn light. Here in the states attempted murder gets you atleast 30 years.

I say good riddance, douche bag. I have zero sympathy for anyone who pretty much has the world by the short hairs and still manages to let themselves get caught up in something like this
