Highlight reel catches do not a good fielder make.

In fact, it seems that it's generally the complete opposite. I'm not saying Edmonds was a bad centerfielder, but one wonders why he's always having to dive for balls

Exactly Goose...

what I do not get is that people are forgetting the defensive prowess of some of the old timers.... The combination of Robinson and Belanger on the far side of the old O's infield was dangerous to opposing hitters... just ask some form the big red machine of the 70s. I forget exactly who (it may have been Bench) who said that people who could switched to bat lefty just to try and avoid hitting towards Robinson and Belanger. They called them human vaccum cleaners.

Some of the best defenders do not make the highlight reals because they make it look too easy.

Hey guys, I do agree with you guys, but Edmonds has had some highlight reel catches to where he's gone over the wall, and make catches like Griffey has.

I have visions of Craig Nettles in the WS at 3rd in the late 70's That was some kind of slick leather he was throwing around then. Leaving him off and putting Chavez on there is a bit of a stretch IMO.

As for Griffey versus Mays. Willie had a stronger and more accurate arm.

Jeter being on there is just plain pathetic and disrespectful to all the great SS's who didn't make it.
