For some reason I always like the guy, I thought he was a good solid pitcher. I espically like him when he pitched for the Cubs. 16 seasons was a pretty good career.. ![]()

Heh. I remember back before I had a better understanding of baseball, that I though the Mariners had one of the best pitchers in baseball because of what Fassero did for the Mariners in 97 and 98. If he were 10 years younger when he put up those numbers, that might of been true.

Loved him in '97, hated him in '99... 4-14, no excuse for letting a pitcher start 24 games with a 7.38 ERA. And then there was Ken Cloude in the same year, with an ERA of 7.98 in 72 innings... and the year of Brian Hunter.
The ultimate expression of a team unable to accomplish replacement level talent... and they still almost made it to .500. *sigh* |

And I was ranting about it the whole time. It never ceases to amaze how long a major league team will stick with a failing player.
And then you take that same pitcher out of his nice, friendly Safeco Field and pay him 4 mil to work out of the bullpen in Fenway? The Mets are paying much less for Chan Ho Park. |

Orosco and Moyer aren't very comparables at all. Orosco was an extreme LOOGY for the last several years in MLB (albeit a very good LOOGY), but how many teams can afford to take up a roster spot with a guy that faces a batter or two per week??
Moyer is still starting, is he not? I heard his Father-in-Law (Digger Phelps) talking on the radio a while back, joking about how he's still playing. |
