If Ken Griffey Jr. would have stayed healthy do you think he would have 700 home runs or at least come close?

I don't know. He has 563 right now. 600 is obviously a realistic possibility, but when he hits 600, he's probably gonna be about 38, so I don't see him getting 100 more after that. Unless he plays till he's 45 or so. But at this rate, he'll be lucky to get to 40 in baseball, let alone 45.
Of course, I still contend that if he had stayed with the Mariners, he'd be right on Aaron's doorstep, if not having passed Aaron already. We'd be talking about 800 instead of 700. That's karma for yeah.

Lets put things this way:
Ken Griffey Jr. started his career playing mostly on Astroturf which has contributed to his injuries now. Astroturf was and is the bane of players existences. "If K-Griff never got hurt..." is more like "In a perfect world." In a Perfect World, Greg Maddux would have won another Cy Young because he hadn't gotten old yet. In a perfect world, Carl Crawford would have stolen 100 bases, and in a perfect world -- Mark McGwire and Barry Bonds would have accomplished their home run records without the aid of performance enhancing drugs. So in a perfect world, yeah -- K-Griff would have reached 700 home runs by now. But it's not a perfect world. If Griffey had stayed in Seattle, it's worth discussing what would have happened. Would the change in parks as well as playing surfaces have hurt or helped him? Would he have been able to keep batting if not play the field if he had stayed in the American League when traded away from Seattle? |

I'm not quite sure what effect it would of had on his health, but I do know staying here would of helped his numbers.
Safeco made be the house that Edgar built(because without The Double, the Mariners probably wouldn't even exist today, let alone have Safeco) but it was built for Griffey. From the spacious CF that would of allowed him to showcase his defensive talents even more, to the left handed friendly dimensions. And yeah, DHing for the Mariners these past few years after Edgar retired would of helped him as well.

what's the point of playing a what if game?
Is there really question that the answer is yes. He has lost a few seasons worth of games becouse of injury and if he was heathty and hitting Home Runs like he did early on in his career there no question he be close. But that means nothing. Players try to avoid injuries but it don't stop it from happening. |
