Yeah, the extra innings package is what went through on DirecTv. You can still watch baseball on other tv providers, but if you want the Extra innings package, you have to have DirecTv.

I have dish and, I got it so I could watch the White Sox.
Well, that was a disaster last season.

I'm hoping that this greediness will be prevented otherwise, I'll have some whining to do to dish about my 18 month contract.

I've seen things about Kerry and/or others trying to stop this.
Does anyone know if it has actually gone through?

Baseball's proposed partnership with DirecTV would shut out many fans - USA Today

Quote:
Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., has called for the Federal Communications Commission to investigate the proposed $700 million, seven-year deal that would shift the Extra Innings package, beginning this season.

Extra Innings offers up to 60 out-of-market regular-season games a week for $179 a season. It is particularly popular with transplants who can follow their favorite teams from anywhere in the country. Households with digital cable or satellite TV have been able to get Extra Innings. There are 63 million homes with digital cable or satellite TV, says Brian Dietz, spokesman for the National Cable & Telecommunications Association. DirecTV now has 15.6 million homes.

The MLB-DirecTV deal is expected to include the rollout of a 24-hour baseball channel in 2009 that, combined with network and cable telecasts, could offer viewers more baseball viewing options than ever. MLB and DirecTV declined to comment on the impending deal. Past Extra Innings customers who don't have, can't get or won't get DirecTV are crying foul.
As long as they start adding on to their HD broadcasts, I'll be happy.

Here's what you can try. See if Dish Network has some sort of vacation stop plan. Plenty of people pick up and move for extended periods of time and I know that DirecTV allows customers to stop for up to 6 months.

So as long as Dish allows a vacation stop, sign up for DirecTV and enjoy the baseball package this summer, put DirecTV on hold at the end of baseball season, finish up the rest of your Dish contract and cancel it when you've fulfilled your contract, and then restart DirecTV. You might have to overlap the 2 but hopefully it won't be for too long.
