FOX Sports - MLB - Where's the next Verlander?
"Verlander made an enormous impact last season, earning 17 wins, helping the Tigers to the World Series and winning American League Rookie of the Year. It's unrealistic to place similar expectations on two of the game's top pitching prospects, Yankees right-hander Philip Hughes and Reds righty Homer Bailey — even though, like Verlander, they were first-round picks in 2004. Verlander, drafted out of college, was 23 at the start of last season. Hughes and Bailey, drafted out of high school, are not yet 21. Both are likely to create buzz in spring training. Both need to start the season at Class AAA."

Answer: In high school.
Until baseball gives pitchers more leverage, there won't be a ton of standouts. It will be limited. Yes there are a lot of young arms but they have quickly turned into injured arms or fallen into mediocrity. |

there is a kid on long island that last year he had an era of .19 110 Ks in 49 innings and threw equal to a 95mph MLB fastball

.19 or 1.19? Do you have any info on him? links? Don't tell us about people like that unless you can provide links so we can look up more info on those people. I know plenty of people that can throw hard that are in HS, but it's mute unless there is a link with info on the players.

And how does that make him the next Verlander? Do you know how many great HS/College level starting pitchers there have been since Verlander? Do you know how many of those dazzling arms are in the minor leagues right now?
Do you know how many didn't amount to anything after they were drafted? |

Brien Taylor is a pure example. Can't miss kid, and he turns out to be nothing. Jeff Allison, Matt White, Travis Lee are all high picks that didn't turn out to be what they were projected to be.
