Might as well start talking about this. Oakland announcers say it's not a question of If, but How Soon, and the inexact answer to that is Very Soon.
I interpret that to mean in the 2009 season. I'm opposed. As I understand it, it would be restricted to home run calls ONLY. If they would go by the rules, that would be the easiest call in all of baseball to make accurately. 6.09(d) A fair ball passes over a fence or into the stands at a distance from home base of 250 feet or more. Such hit entitles the batter to a home run when he shall have touched all bases legally. If it goes over the fence, its a homer. If it doesn't, it's not. Enforce the rule, and paint over all those silly yellow lines, and turn off the cameras. ------------ By the way, would the use of a replay camera require a change in the Official Rules of Baseball, or could MLB just institute it?
