Default Did Willie Randolph play the race card?

Quote:
"I don't know how to put my finger on it, but I think there's something there," Randolph said in the column. He cited the example of former New York Jets coach Herman Edwards as a coach who was initially successful, but did not last long when the Jets started losing. He also noted the treatment of former New York Knicks coach and GM Isiah Thomas, saying "Isiah didn't do a great job, but they beat up Isiah pretty good. ... There's something weird about it."

Reds manager Dusty Baker said Randolph may have simply been speaking his mind.

"Is that possibly far-fetched, what he said there? Is there a possibility?" Baker said. "But I've got to hear what Willie said, though. I mean, I've said some stuff, too. Sometimes it could be some stuff you've been feeling for a long time, you know what I mean? I didn't apologize, either, but everybody had to answer for what I said. That's the part that's not fair."
ESPN - Randolph backs off racial comments, criticism of cable network - MLB

Personally, I feel Willie Randolph is not a good fit for the Mets. IMO the Mets need a manager that fits better with the teams high number of Latino players and the culture of New York.....

Ozzie Guillen.

A few years ago there was a lot of talk about how good a manager Willie would make and what a shame (racism was hinted at) it was he hadn't been hired yet. This of course came from a lot of white guys in the media. My reaction was, how could they know that? It seemed to be one of those catch-phrases that people repeat simply because they want to fit in. I guess my point is, it was the same white media that wanted him to get the job that are supposedly trying to force him out.

That is what you call a distraction.

Couple this with the latino locker room split and you have the makings of a $130 million disaster.
