A dispute has emerged between Hank Steinbrenner and Brian Cashman over the issue of pitcher Joba Chamberlin being a starter or reliever.
Granted, these are the Yankees and Hank seems to be his father's son, but aren't decisions like this usually made by the manager and/or the pitching coach? |

Yes...unfortunately, as you inferred, the NYY organization has a "I pay your salary to do what I say, not what I hired you to do" mentality. And you see how well that has worked out for Al Davis' Raiders in recent years...

The Yankees should just trade for Zito and take that contract.

The Yankees have serious holes in the rotation. Besides, Zito is only 29. He looks like a spring chicken compared to Mike Mussina and Andy Pettitte.
In 2003, the Braves took a chance on Mike Hampton, and he had a decent year that year. Zito is young than Hampton and more durable. Zito seems salvageable Of course, I am under the assumption that money is not an issue for the Yankees. Hell, the Giants would probably have to throw in a prospect just for another team to eat that contract!

I think they'd be better talking to the A's about Joe Blanton...I'm sure Billy Beane would listen. Zito's been on a steady decline since 2004 and I think that 82MPH fastball would get smacked around even worse in the AL.

True, but Blanton would cost more prospects. I do not believe the Yankees farm system is that great... is it?

I'd rather have Pettitte using his cane at the mound than the youthful Zito throwing up his marshmallow batting practice pitches. Are the Yanks short on batting practice pitchers? Zito's got the resume' for it.

Didn't Jose Contreras rebound nicely in Chicago?

Contreras hadn't had several poor seasons in a row, and he went to a SMALLER media market, not a larger.
Here's Zito's BB/9 ![]() Here's Contreras ![]()
