So you were actually saying that many of those you listed should get HoF votes before other marginal applicants. I took that to mean that you thought many of them were worthy of the Hall of Fame. Elliott: 3B: 1,365 G OF: 537 G Quote:
Allen: 1B: 807 G 3B: 652 G OF: 256 G I only mentioned those to make your list more accurate. That's all you got out of my post? Didn't you like any of my additions? Last edited by Triad; 11-16-2007 at 08:33 PM. |

The fact that the word NOT is block-caps in my disclaimer introduction seems to have eluded your notice. Furthermore, you chose to combine that oversight with the observation that a number of them deserve to be voted in before some marginal players-in-waiting at present. I saw Bob Ellott play [I had introduced the entire thread with that thought], as all other players roughly from 1930-1990; so [for the second time now] I explained why I put him in with the OF-ers. I erred in the Hargrove and Allen placements [as I already explained] by the rather foolish idea that I'd put them where I thought they'd have the least "power" image to live up to. I might as easily have identified them as "worthy players" without delving into positions. I then acknowledged the faulty premise, yet you must have your moment by spelling out the game numbers by position, as if I didn't know these players, despite the fact that I was praising their talents. [I might very well ask your very question: Is that all you got out of my premise? To make position refinements?] I might also have been called out on my placement of Billy Goodman, who also played several positions. I placed him, like others, for example, in the OF [if they played some OF] rather than 1b [which might have dominated their playing time] simply because 1B has become so strongly identified as a power slot. I presented a premise. You corrected some questionable decisions on position placement. Congratulations on your exactitude. Last edited by nanwynnfan; 11-17-2007 at 12:39 AM. |
