Last Game: 9/30/07- San Diego Padres (6) at Milwaukee Brewers (11) Final. Last Game: 9/30/07- Arizona Diamondbacks (3) at Colorado Rockies (4) Final. N.L. WC PLAYOFF GAME Monday, October 1st, 2007, 7:37pm EDT. Projected Starting Pitchers (Pitching Matchup Subject to Change) San Diego @t Colorado vs. (#44 Jake Peavy) vs. (#37 Josh Fogg) (19-6, 2.36 ERA) vs. (10-9, 4.79 ERA) (11-14, 4.09 ERA) & (11-9, 5.49 ERA) (76-51, 3.28 ERA) § (60-60, 4.87 ERA) I believe the Rockies win because they are the hot team and there the home team. Big Advantage there!

This is a milk run game for the announcers because they already have their built in dramatic themes for both clubs regardless of the outcome. For the Rockies it will be the drama of capping their miraculous charge down the stretch into contention on the final day. For the Padres, we will be seeing a zillion camera shots of Cameron and Bradley in the dugout and the theme will be San Diego overcoming the adversity of losing their stars to misadventure. It's no lose for the anouncers because whichever team wins, they can still be marketed as the plucky underdog.

Each team has their own advantage in this matchup. The Padres will benefit from being able to put their Cy Young pitcher on the mound. The Rockies will benefit from playing at home in front of a sell-out crowd. This has all the makings of a great game! My prediction? Rockies win in a nail biter.

Only bad thing for the Pads.. Peavy not going to be available game 1 in a short series if they do win

Who would have predicted that Jake Peavy would give up 6 runs and that Trevor Hoffman would fail to hold a 2-run lead in the 13th inning? This easily becomes the best game in Colorado Rockies history, and an instant classic for ESPN.
It'll be interesting to see how the Rockies fare against the Phillies. Both clubs look like teams of destiny. Can Colorado continue its magic, or will Jimmy Rollins and the Philadelphia Phillies find a way to stop the Denver nine? It should be a riveting NLDS. |

Did anyone else feel that Matt Holiday's injury and pseudo tag at home plate took away from the moment?
Regardless, the Rockies deserve the win, and now we can finally get the playoffs rolling! Last edited by unreal654; October 2nd, 2007 at 06:43 AM. |

The Padres didn't necessarily get robbed. The Rockies legitimately tied the game at 8 and would have had the winning run at second base with one out. We can't know for sure what would have happened afterwards, but I agree that it's unfortunate that such a great game came down to a costly bad call.
At the end of the day, though, the Padres have no one to blame but themselves. They had every opportunity to clinch the wild card during the final weekend of the regular season. Instead, they dropped two of three to Milwaukee, and then had their two best pitchers in Peavy and Hoffman give up at least 8 runs in the one game playoff. San Diego choked. |

True, it would have been second base with two outs.
I think the Rockies would have found a way to win this game no matter what (sometimes things just seem meant to be) but I hate that they won on what should have been an out at the plate. Padres fans must be beside themselves. Even Rockies fans must be a little bit disappointed. It's always better to earn your victory. |
