The Los Angeles Kings placed goaltender Dan Cloutier on waivers Friday with the intention of sending him to Manchester of the AHL.
CKNW in Vancouver is reporting that Cloutier will not accompany the team to London, England for their September 29th game against the Ducks. Cloutier struggled with injuries last season, missing 44 games with a hip injury. The Canucks reportedly want Cloutier to recover fully from his injuries in the minors. The difficulty arises for the Kings that Cloutier will have to clear re-entry waivers if Los Angeles chooses to recall him at any point during the season. Another team would be able to claim Cloutier at half of his salary with the Kings covering the other half. The Kings had hoped that Cloutier would be the answer between the pipes when they acquired him in July of 2006 for a pair of draft picks. He finished the season with a record of 6-14-2 with an .860 save percentage. The former Canucks netminder was expected to challenge for the number one goaltender spot this season with the Kings but has been outplayed in the pre-season by junior eligible netminder Johnathan Bernier who shone for Canada at the Summit Series. ![]()
