Default Scot Shields gets new contract

Quote:
The Angels locked up an integral piece of their bullpen through 2010 today when they agreed to terms with set-up man Scot Shields on a four-year deal worth $18 million.

Shields will make a base salary of $3.4 million this season (he had already signed a 2007 contract to avoid arbitration in January), $4.25 million in 2008, $5 million in 2009 and $5.35 million in 2010.
LA Times

Personally, I think it's a good deal, although longer than I'd hoped. Considering his production, $4.5 million per year isn't a bad deal.

$4.5 million for a set-up guy.

I really went into the wrong business

Glad to have him locked in for 4 more years, though

Yeah, I think we all wish we had continued developing our fastballs as young kids. I still think that Shields is one of the best relievers in the game, and will continue to be for quite a while.
