Default Juan Rivera breaks his leg in winterball

Linkage

Quote:
The Angels Friday announced that outfielder Juan Rivera sustained a broken left tibia in a game earlier today while playing winter ball in Venezuela.

Rivera, 28, suffered the injury playing for the Oriente Caribbeans during their contest vs. the Aragua Tigers in Maracay, VZ. Rivera's left leg has been placed in a cast and he will be flown to Miami, Florida, where he will be re-examined by a trauma specialist tomorrow.
What a weird day this has been for baseball players. First Griffey breaks his hand in an accident at home(what else is new),then Chipper Jones gets sued by some guy in Philly, then Dontrelle Willis gets arrested for drunk driving, and now Rivera breaks his leg.

Friday the 22nd=The New Friday the 13th?

Cool

This will open competition for leftfield in spring. The guy that wins will have to show power, speed and glove. IMO we might already have a player that excells Juan Rivera on all those points.

Who might that be? I think we've only got one guy on the major league team that excells over JR on all those points. And, I don't think it opens any kind of competition for LF in spring training. Garret Anderson will be the starting left fielder on opening day, barring injury. The competition will end up being at DH. Personally, I hope Kendry Morales wins that job if JR is out for an extended period of time.
