Thumbs up Napoli vs. Mathis

Mathis had his 3 weeks in the sun, and unfortunetly after 3 years of seeing him he's a capable backup and no more.
He should get no more than 2 days a week.

I was thinking just the opposite. Napoli has a big hole in his swing and can't throw anybody out. Mathis is better defensively and just needs to make more contact.

2 HR in 1 game is a hole I'll take anyday!

Yeah, me too. I must be some kind of motivator. I rag on Grandpa Anderson and he starts hitting. I disparage Napoli's swing and he hits two homeruns. Guess there is only one thing to do. Time to turn my magic on Vladdy "Dum Dum" Guerrero.

Question: What's higher: Dum Dum's IQ or his uniform number? I'm thinking his uniform. Did you catch that classic at bat with two on and no out Sunday? I know Lowe is going to throw sliders well off the plate. You know Lowe is going to throw sliders well off the plate. In fact, everyone knows Lowe is going to throw sliders well off the plate. Everyone except Dum Dum who flays away like a moron at unhittable offerings and strikes out on three pitches. I know he is a great player, but my God he gives away at bats. The slump he is in is between his ears...that's a place where if you listen very closely, you can hear the ocean.

How can you even remotely want a .220 hitter with no pop to be your starting catcher?

That's easy:

Team Era with Mathis Catching: 3.34 With Napoli: 5.07

Team Record with Mathis Catching: 13-8 With Napoli: 13-12

I'm not saying we don't need the "pop" in Napoli's bat, somebody needs to hit with authority on a team where "dink hit" is the norm, but I think the Angels get more with Mathis behind the plate.

Your stats make the case for letting Napster DH and JM catch!

You know, maybe it's time to consider that neither of these guys is the answer. With the trading deadline approaching, I wonder if there are any catchers out there. Think the Giants would make Bengie Molina available?
