Default How good was Bud Black?

I really had a lot of confidence in him. It really looked like the pitchers responded well to him.

How good do you guys think he is? Will he be a better manager than Scioscia?

I was hoping the Royals would go after him after they are done with Buddy Bell (Next Year?). He looked like a wonderful pitching coach and a hot manager candidate.

Good hire by SD.

IMO, Bud will be an excellent manager, especially in an environment like San Diego where he doesn't have to worry about his kids moving, etc. He communicates very well and does a good job of maintaining a strong work ethic within his teams. I think Black will be very successful in San Diego.

I see Bud being very successfull with the Padres. Might be worth a trip down to San Diego for a game next season.

I'm just glad to see Bud go to a team like San Diego (and out of the AL). I hate it when the Angels play Tampa Bay, now. My love for Joe Maddon makes it hard NOT to root for the D-Rays.

As a Mariner fan I too am happy he's no longer in the AL. Black's loss can't be a good thing for AnaLACalaheim's chances.

Well, as a former catcher I think Scioscia knows how to handle pitchers on his own. So I'm not all that concerned about losing Black. Anybody know anything about possible replacements? I heard Charles Nagy might get the call up from Salt Lake, but that was a while ago.

And for the record, Top Cat, it's "Los Angeheim Angels"

Useless trivia: as a pitcher, Nagy didn't miss a start from October 3, 1993 to May 16, 2000.

Well, he's a better coach and will continue to be than Mike for years now even though he was just our pitching coach.

Can't believe we let him AND Maddon go. We're screwed...

I'd love to hear why you think Bud Black is a better manager than Mike Scioscia.

I don't think he IS but he will be this year and now on that he has his own team.

Let's just say there's a reason why our pitching is so great. It's Black and his directiveness.

But a good pitching coach doesn't translate into a good manager. I wish Bud the best, but we still don't know if he has any managerial skills.

All i'm going to say is that if we had to keep one of them as our head coach, I would still keep Black even though Mike won us a WS in 02.
