Stick with Joe Nelson? Give Burgos another try?
Overpay in this filthy FA market for Borowski or the high risk Gagne? Bring up a young kid and give him a try? We need all kinds of pitching, but last year we were terrible at closing out games. |

This is just thinking out loud, but what about this list for possible closer candidates on the free agent market?
Chad Bradford: We could relive the days of The Quiz. He was 4-2, 2.90 in 62.0 innings last year for the Mets. Eddie Guardado: Battled some injuries in '06, but he's a proven closer. He'd probably cost too much though and our primary need is starting pitching. Roberto Hernandez...just kidding Guillermo Mota: Of course he'd have to open the season with a 50 game suspension David Weathers: He was 4-4, 3.54 ERA with 12 saves in 19 chances for the Reds in '06. In '05, he was 7-4, 3.94 ERA with 15 saves in 19 chances. Solid ERA's and a history of closing games. Hmmmm... Steve Kline: Last year he was 4-3, 3.66 for the Giants. He has 37 career saves although he really hasn't been used as a closer since 2000 or 2001. His K:BB ratio hasn't been that great in recent years, though. |
