According to ESPN Insider (premium) Reggie Sanders and Emil Brown are both available. What is the asking price for these guys? What are the Royals looking for still?
If both are dealt I assume an OF would be needed back?

"Stockpile arms" seems to be the Royals new mantra. I believe Moore would trade either Brown or Sanders a for back-of-rotation veteran starter or a low-minors pitching prospect with possible upside.
I don't think you can assume we would need an outfielder back, even if both were dealt. Including prospects expected to be in AAA or higher in 2007, we have more potential depth in the outfield than anywhere else, particularly as Teahen is expected to be moved to the outfield. However, Dayton Moore's view of this isn't completely clear, as there are persistent rumors of Royal interest in Ryan Church. If Moore thinks he can get more good arms for both Brown and Sanders, he might do that and then try to trade for or sign another young outfielder who is better defensively. Moore says "no more losing seasons", so he might not want to rely on some combination of Gathright/Costa/Maier as a stopgap until Butler is ready. Last edited by tfn; 12-14-2006 at 02:32 PM. |

There was a hot rumor going around a few weeks back that Sanders was being talked about for Rodrigo Lopez who has now been non tendered. The Royals seem to be quite heavy on OF. If Alex Gordon starts the year at 3B the plan is for Mark Teahan to play LF, Dejesus to play CF, and Costa/Brown/Gathright/Sanders to fight it out for RF and the reserve role. Also Billy Butler is going to be given a chance to win a spot in spring training, but honestly I expect him to start in AAA with the depth we currently have.
They have been showing interest in Ryan Church, but I think Dayton will continue to stock pile as much arms as he can. Due to Sanders salary and age he will be obviously easier to get in a trade.

Oddly enough the Royals are rumored to have interest in Jeff Suppan and that's about what he will probably be looking at getting so the contract itself may not scare the Royals away.
I'm not sure how much Dayton value's Washburn. Are you trying to hint that the M's might have interest in one of these two OF's?

before the idiocy of the Vidro trade I would have enjoyed one of those two joining the club even if the Mariners had to pay two-thirds of Washburn's deal.

Emil Brown is sort of our new Raul Ibanez. Found on the scrap heap and turned into a decent major leaguer. I really liked Ibanez...
I don't think Sanders would be tough to get from the Royals. Brown may have some value. He should be rather cheap and has hit pretty well the past two seasons.
