The Royals have 3 players in the top 30 on that list. Alex Gordon (minor league player of the year) came in at #2 behind the bat thrower. Billy Butler is #13. The little blurb about Butler says that he is arguably the the best pure hitter in the minor leagues, and is working hard to improve his OF defense. He hopes to win a job in KC this year. Luke Hochevar is our 3rd best prospect and #30 overall. It makes mention that the Royals recent moves have relieved some of the pressure on Luke to move quickly through the system.
It is nice having a young core of position players and now having some bright pitching on the way up. They should have a few seasons together which could mean the playoffs in during the '08 to '10 period (hopefully beyond since DM is working off of a model built for long term success). Who will be manning the position spots in the next year or two? 1B:Ryan Shealy 2B: Grudzielanek in '07, but then maybe German? Although the Royals would like to see his 2B defense improve. SS: Berroa is signed through the '08 season. I'm not overly impressed with our SS prospects until you get down to Bianchi (who quite possibly will end up at 2B in the future) 3B: Hmmmm...I'm drawing a blank on this one. Is there anyone that can play 3B? Oh yeah! Alex Gordon from 2007-2025! C: John Buck isn't eligible for FA until after the 2010 season. If his bat doesn't improve, we'll be looking elsewhere by then. LF: Mark Teahen CF: David DeJesus RF: Billy Butler The 2008 rotation could/should include Meche, Greinke, Lumsden, Hochevar. Last edited by GeorgiaRoyal; 12-09-2006 at 09:06 AM. |

I like the young core of the team. I think we really need to look for an upgrade up the middle down the road. Berroa and Buck don't seem to be the answers and Grudz is getting up there in age. Other then that I think we have a good young core lineup. With Dayton stockpiling arms this team may not be so bad in a few years.
