ESPN reported it last night saying it would be announced today. Apparently the Royals get Brian Bannister for Ambiorix Burgos. I'm a bit torn on this trade. I don't mind moving Burgos. I think he was rushed to the majors and tossed in a rough spot. He showed flashes, but didn't really take to the closer spot. There is no doubt he has a live arm. I don't know all that much about Bannister. Anyone have good information on him?

We have relievers. Not a bunch that are worth much, and Burgos fits into that category. We NEED starting pitchers. Bannister fits that bill. I like the deal, and really don't anticipate this one coming back to bite us at all. He's young. I don't have the 2006 BA prospect handbook, but in the 2005 one, they say that he [works with his fastball in the range of 90-92. He also throws a cut fastball that is in the 87-88 range. He has an advanced feel for pitching (expected from the son of a former major leaguer). He projects to a solid back of the rotation starter.] That is what the scouting report from BA said. He'll be turning 26 at the end of February. In his first exposure to the big leagues, he was 2-1, 4.26 in 38.0 innings. He had low K numbers, but also allowed less than a hit per inning. But, that is a small sample. In 550 minor league innings he has a K rate of 7.74 per 9 innings. He has a whip of 1.19 and has allowed .59 homers per 9 innings. I think that he will strengthen the back end of our rotation and keep us from having to see Runelvys Hernandez very often if at all. Right now, we're looking at:
1. Odalis Perez 2. Luke Hudson 3. Jorge de la Rosa 4. Brian Bannister 5. Zack Greinke or whoever wins the spring training competion and or remains healthy during spring training. Last edited by GeorgiaRoyal; 12-06-2006 at 05:43 PM. |

As a Mets fans, I think this is a good trade for both teams. The Mets needed a reliever since they lost Chad Bradford and Roberto Hernandez, so Ambiorix Burgos should be a nice addition to the bullpen. While the Royals get a good starting pitcher. Bannister pitched well for the Mets last season, until he got injured.
I wish Bannister luck in Kansas City. |
