The frustration of a franchise-record road losing streak may be getting to coach

The SuperSonics (17-31) will try to avoid dropping their 16th straight game away from KeyArena when they meet the Indiana Pacers (26-22) on Wednesday night.

Seattle's road skid is the league's longest since Portland lost its final 16 last season. Getting ready to play again without injured star Rashard Lewis against Washington on Monday, Hill questioned his team after writing "lost 14 straight on the road" in red ink and capital letters on the greaseboard in the visiting locker room

"Are we tough enough? Do we have competitive spirit? Do we know how to win? What is it? It's something," Hill said. "There's other players in there, too, that need to scoot their ... chairs up to the table and be accountable."

INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 7 (AP) -- Ray Allen has been scoring plenty of points. On Wednesday night, they finally added up to a win on the road.

The six-time All-Star had 33 points and nine assists, and rookie Andre Brown made the go-ahead basket with 23 seconds remaining to give the Seattle SuperSonics a 103-102 victory over the Indiana Pacers. The Sonics snapped a 15-game road losing streak.

INDIANAPOLIS -- There was no shortage of heroes Wednesday as the Sonics snapped their franchise record 15-game road losing streak. Ray Allen led the way with 33 points and nine assists, as Seattle held off a dramatic bid in the final seconds for a 103-102 win over the Indiana Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse.

Allen had plenty of help, as four of his teammates finished in double figures. Chris Wilcox scored 17, Mickael Gelabale had 12, while Earl Watson and Damien Wilkins came off the bench to score 10 apiece.

Seattle battled back from an eight-point deficit in the final minutes to tie the score at 100, when Andre Brown put in a layup and hit the following free throw to give a 101-100 with 54 seconds remaining.

Brown scored on a layup, was fouled and hit the free throw to put the Sonics up 101-100 with 54 seconds left.

The Sonics don't have to replay the final 4.9 seconds when the Indiana Pacers had four chances to send a sparse crowd of 12,923 home, thrilled with a buzzer-beating basket. Bouncing off the rim for what seemed to be 50 times, the ball needed just one tip, one change of direction to curl into the hoop and send the Sonics 2,000 miles home losers yet again.

Finally, Jamaal Tinsley gathered the third offensive rebound of the frenzied possession and launched a fadeaway from 8 feet. It hit the side of the rim, backboard, front of the rim and then off. Danny Granger gathered the ball, but the red light had illuminated around the backboard, and the Sonics had avoided another torturous late defeat.

“We won,” he said. “We won.”

In an NBA season turning oddly dramatic, it was the first time in 16 games on the road that the embattled coach could make such a proclamation.

But the Sonics’ hard-fought, 103-102 victory against the Indiana Pacers in front of a sparse crowd of 12,923 brought an end to the team’s franchise-record road skid and provided smiles in a locker room that had become tense and frustrated.
