Buffalo, NY, Feb 27, 2007 (The Sports Network via COMTEX) -- The Buffalo Sabres
added some scoring depth to their roster before Tuesday's trade deadline, as they acquired left wing Dainius Zubrus from Washington in exchange for center Jiri Novotny and a first-round selection in the 2007 Entry Draft. The 28-year-old Zubrus has 20 goals and 32 assists in 60 contests with the Capitals this season. A former first-round pick (15th overall) by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1996 draft, Zubrus has registered 352 points (134 goals, 218 assists) in 670 career games with the Flyers, Montreal and Washington. The Capitals get a solid prospect back from Buffalo in the 23-year-old Novotny, who has six goals and seven assists in 50 games for the Sabres this year. Novotny was a first-round pick (22nd overall) in the 2001 draft. The Sabres also received defenseman Timo Helbling in the deal. Helbling, 25, ha one assist in 11 career games with Washington and Tampa Bay. |
