I personally hope the Flyers trade him. I don't see him coming back next year, when the Flyers are trying to rebuild. The Flyers could be saying that to drive up the price. I also think the Flyers should hold onto him til the 27th, and wait for the best offer.

I'd offer a fourth rounder and a conditional second pick. HIGHLY conditional second pick (meaning the Flyers would get a 2nd draft pick -- which round is also part of the conditions -- if Forsberg meets certain criteria). Could be a 1st, could be an 8th, could be nothing...

Sources tell TSN the Nashville Predators have agreed to trade Scottie Upshall, Ryan Parent, a first round pick and a third round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers for Peter Forsbeg.

If they win the cup this is a great trade. With the Predators depth in young defencemen (Fransson, Weber, Suter, Klein, Parent) this made them front-runners to acquire Forsberg. Even though Parent is gone you see they still have 4 defencemen that will make the NHL. Although Upshall is a great young player if you look at there line-up they have 3 SCORING LINES! This trade makes Nashville the best team in the league which does not please me. Hopefully the Wings can meet and beat them in the play-offs.

Even if they win the Cup, it's still a horrid move.
You can crow about winning the Cup and see an attendance spike next season in Nashville but it's still Nashville in the eyes of the players. Some might find the city more credible while others still revile it and not take it seriously. You need more than a Cup from this -- you need long term viability and long-term contention from the Preds. You don't get that in this move. You get one-and-done, at best. |

Also, Upshall was in Trotz's doghouse while Parent has a bulging disk in his back which is not good for a player his age. I'm not sure how good this draft is gonna be though but I have heard that the first 10-15 picks are top notch and then the draft is poor from there and that first round is going to be 25th-30th overall. Only time will tell if this was a win for either side.
