While various rumors suggest the Montreal Canadiens are in the market for some added punch, there appears to be little interest in the players they are trying to move, reports La Presse. According to the paper, the names of Sheldon Souray, Sergei Samsonov, Janne Niinimaa and David Aebischer have been floating around in recent trade speculation. However, the value of Samsonov, Niinimaa and Aebischer are practically none existent, while the Canadiens have no intention of trading Souray. Citing an unnamed source, La Presse the Habs may be "stuck" with Samsonov due to his $3.525 million salary. Niinimaa, on the other hand, may attract more interest as the season progresses. Even though he makes just over $2.5 million this season, teams are always interested in a veteran defenseman for the playoff stretch. Montreal's defensive depth would allow them to part with Niinimaa for some help up front. |
