The Florida Panthers and Nathan Horton have agreed to terms on a six-year, $24-million contract.
The final three years of the deal, which would have been his unrestricted free agent years, contain a no-trade clause.
''This is where I wanted to be,'' Horton said. ''This is an unbelievable place to play. The guys, the franchise..it's a great organization. Obviously, I wanted to stay here and be part of this team.''
The 22-year old Horton enjoyed a breakout season last year with 31 goals, 31 assists and a +15 rating while playing in all 82 games.
''Nathan has taken significant steps in his growth process and we strongly believe that he possess all the essential qualities that we strive for in our players,'' Panthers' head coach Jacques Martin said.
Horton was chosen 3rd overall in the 2003 NHL entry draft. He has 73 goals and 58 assists in 208 career NHL games.

Amazing job done by Martin getting Horton to sign for only 4 million a year. This kid is a great player and is only getting better at the age of 22. This also means he is signed for his first 3 years of UFA legibility. Congrats Florida on the great signing!
