Monty Python and the Holy Grail
This Is Spinal Tap Airplane! Top Secret Office Space Honorable mention to the Naked Gun flicks ...as well as to Stripes and Meatballs which were not really funny movies so much as they were brilliant Bill Murray performances. |

I'm clearly among the minority in not finding Blazing saddles to be all that great... (and it's certainly not a dislike of Mel Brooks, given that I've enjoyed Spaceballs and The Producers)
In no particular order Monty Python and the Holy Grail Life of Brian Super Troopers The Big Lebowski Airplane Bubba Ho-Tep The Princess Bride Ghostbusters Big Trouble In Little China Many more than 5... to give credit to those that have not been mentioned. |

skrabs,
I just recently saw the original version of The Producers (Mel Brooks' first film, I believe). I am now convinced that the ending for The Blues Brothers, which seemed original at the time, was certainly inspired by Brooks' film. |

For a number of reasons that will probably never be overcome, the Cinema does not work very well as a vehicle for Comedy. But a few pictures have made me laught quite a bit:
W.C.Field's "Fatal Glass of Beer" "Bill and Ted's Great Adventure" "Galaxy Quest" "Attention Shoppers" and finally.... "I'm Alright Jack"--may be the greatest comedy ever, with Peter Sellers, Terry-Thomas and Ian Carmichael, 1959. Last edited by jtur88; March 22nd, 2007 at 10:22 AM. |

Those are just funny movies.
Funniest all time? Nah, not by a long shot. Blazing Saddles, especially at the time it was released, was like 'Airplane!' 'Borat' and 'Chappelle's Show' all rolled into one. Original, edgy even by today's desensitized standards, but still with plenty of the sight gags and slapstick that dominated comedies in the preceding decades. And oh yeah, its the funniest movie ever. |
