I recently made a trade in which I acquired Barfield and Carlos Lee for Brian Roberts and Miguel Tejada. I have Hanley Ramirez to play SS and I needed some OF help so I felt it was a good trade.
Just curious, I think Barfield is going to have a much better season than Brian Roberts, whose numbers have gone down since his solid season two years ago. Who does everyone like for this season here? Barfield or Roberts? I'm in a 9 team Roto league. My batters are as follows: C-Brian McCann 1B-Ryan Howard 2B-Josh Barfield 3B-Chipper Jones SS-Hanley Ramirez OF-Manny Ramirez OF-Carlos Lee OF-Hideki Matsui OF-Corey Patterson UTIL-Mark Teixeira UTIL-Frank Thomas BENCH-Alex Gordon BENCH-Rich Aurilia BENCH-Nick Swisher BENCH-J.D. Thanks fellas. I don't know how I didn't conclude that JB meant Josh Barfield. Just one of those days I guess lol. I agree with your assessments and i'm glad you agree. Now hopefully Alex Gordon will take over for Chipper Jones half way through my season because I can't stand Larry "Chipper" Jones.

I see Roberts as a top 5 or 6 2B.... I do not see such a ranking for Barfield, though he could be top 10... the question is how much of a difference is there really between #10 and #6 at 2B??
Roberts was hurt a little in the past 2 seasons.. and that has to be a concern... but he is a catalyst for the O's lineup at the top spot in the order... And even in a down year from his big one, Roberts hit .286 with double digit HR and 30+ steals... Barfield is a #8 hitter and will not really be moved up in the lineup... that alone will have a bit more value towards Roberts... Roberts is a bit more patient hitter... each of them has double digit HR power and 20+SB talent I personally think, and not just as an O's fan... that Roberts is a slightly better fantasy play... not immensely better, but better... but it is about the value... can you get Roberts pretty safely in the late 5th or early 6th as a decent value? Yep.... But what I have seen so far after that is that with a lack of good depth at the 2B position, there is a 2B run shortly after Roberts is usually taken where the next few 2B men are taken a bit ahead of where they should be (a round or 2), as in Weeks, Kent, or Lugo.... that makes for a bad situation and some unlucky team will be left with Hudson or Iguchi as a starter, all because the chips don't fall right with the draft run on 2Bmen... As for the trade... it could be pretty even, except that Miggy is a pretty good SS performer... but you were cushioned with Ramirez (how you did that, I don't know)... so the trade is not bad per se... but i would not be thinking that Barfield is going to be a better fantasy player or has more fantasy potential

Roberts only batting .257 and missed a couple games... but is actually doing ok for me in the league where I have him... 11 steals already, 1HR, 17 R, 7 RBI
