Simple 12 Team 5x5 Head to Head Roto
C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, OF, OF, OF, UTIL, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P C Jason Varitek (round 15) C Paul Lo Duca (21) 1B Prince Fielder (9) 1B/2B Mark Loretta (19) 2B Rickie Weeks (7) SS Stephen Drew (12) 3B Scott Rolen (8) OF Hideki Matsui (4) OF Juan Pierre (5) OF Delmon Young (6) OF Nick Markakis (13) OF Josh Willingham (17) SP Johan Santana (1) SP Chris Carpenter (2) SP Roy Oswalt (3) SP Rich Harden (11) SP Joe Blanton (20) RP Chad Cordero (10) RP Scot Shields (14) RP Dan Wheeler (18) I don't like how thin I am at SS and 3B but the guys I was looking at there just didn't pan out...everyone killed hitters the first three rounds, thus my SP's and why I took Matsui as the top available hitter left at that point. Opinions welcome....

OF might be a tad thin. I just don't like Juan Pierre, even in Roto (where SB's are weighted more heavily). Rolen is not as bad a pick as you think, plus I bet you could get a nice backup for him from the stock of 2nd/3rd year 3B-men that are out there.
You are right about the SP's. Whew. Can you flip one for a Closer? |

Hey buddy... good to see you are still doing it after all these years... I still remember (it seems not long ago) when you were doing your first league One hell of a pitching staff here.... supprised you don't have one of the pitchers from your favorite team... The only pick I don't like really (and it is just a personal choice) is Pierre... I am not a fan of 1 or 2 category players.... Pierre can really help on steals, but his yearly run, hr, and RBI totals can sometimes hurt in roto more than it can in a points based league.... one thing I have found though is he is excellent trade material a bit into the season to a team that is hurting on steals..... I like Markakis at 13, love Harden at 11, and Fielder at 9... all could be poised for breakout years

So it is a fine team but I would worry about the hitting starting off with 3 pitchers. |

Carlos Zambrano and Daisuke Matsuzaka were both taken in the 3rd round right before I took Oswalt which I thought was funny....then Halladay went right before I took Matsui...I was drafting 6th in odd rounds and 7th in even...so it went Soriano, Pujols, Reyes, ARod, Howard so I didnt like anything more than Santana then it came around and Beltran, Cabrera, Wright and Crawford were gone...leaving me with no one I liked more than Carpenter, then Sizemore, CLee, JBay and VWells were gone so I had no one I liked more than Oswalt...I was really hoping to get Hanley Ramirez or Chone Figgins or Andruw Jones at 4 and then Matsui at 5 but they were all gone by the time I picked at 4. If I would have picked Grady Sizemore 2nd I could have taken Sheets instead of Pierre but whatever, then I'd have 3 Brewers and hate my injury risks even more....

I agree with Santana he was your best option there.
in the 2nd Hafner droped longer then he should have. He is the guy you should have picked. Then Carpenter could of been a good 3rd pick if he falls that far and if not someone else may have been for you had changed the draft board and Joe Mauer was also still there when you picked 3rd and he is 10 spots ahead of Oswalt on the Average Draft Possition listing. So lets say if you did Santana, Hafner and Mauer you could fell alright to pass on Matsui to take Jake Peavy or Zambrano. And you would of just as strong if you take another in the next few rounds and you would a few better hitters. |

Yeah I was hoping to grab Barrett, but someone got him right before me, in fact this one guy took 5 players right before I wanted to take them...so I was able to get value at the last pick of the draft for me with LoDuca. Ensberg I think is in for a big year with Lee added to their lineup. Peralta is a good back up, and I'm taking a hit or miss with Prior. I felt I could do so easily with the other pitchers I already have.

Hey, if your biggest problem is at Catcher, you're doing just fine. I have LoDuca in one League, but it's only because I waited to pick him up in the last few rounds. The decent Catchers were gone by then, so why draft a poor Catcher 5-6 rounds too early just because everyone else has gotten one?
