That was my main point...I was going to then draft Varitek in around 16...but I realized everyone else had a catcher and some teams even had 2 so I knew I could wait until my last pick.

Smart. Observant. Nicely done.

Plus it leads to a nice tactic I call "The LoDuca Switch". One of those guys is going to wind up disappointed with their slow starting catcher. Swap LoDuca for him in June. You will be raked over the coals, but your composite C stats will be those of an All Star.

Seriously check out LoDuca's splits over his career for pre/post AllStar

A few weeks ago I launched my own blog about Seattle Sounders FC and Life in Puget Sound. I won't be by these parts often as my focus has changed. Sorry about the unannounced retirement.

Heh, I do the same thing with Shea Hillenbrand. Every time I manage to draft him in the later rounds(because he's not really that good), I manage to trade him around the beginning of June for way more than he's worth because he's always got a .950 OPS around that time. Afterwards, he always tanks.

Haha, that was exactly my plan actually, I've had Lo Duca to start the last 3 years, and after the All-Star break I go with someone else. I had him in the first half two years ago, when Victor Martinez got off to a TERRIBLE start and then I put in Martinez after the All-Star break, I had UNIMAGINABLE numbers from the Catcher spot that year....

Exactly what I did last year with Ramon Hernandez.... knew Hernandez would not keep it up (Just too freakish a start for him)... traded him off, watched him tank... traded Ramon Hernandez and Hank Blalock... for Brian McCann, Bob Wickman, and Adrian Beltre... about a week after the A.S. break... my catcher stats and 3B stats were much better that what it appeared to be from just looking at the final roster
